Why might my dog need physiotherapy?

Signs of pain or Pain related behaviour:

  • Reluctant to do things they did previously e.g. jumping in and out of the car or on the bed or sofa, struggling to get up stairs
  • Spending less time with you
  • Becoming grumpier with other dogs
  • Excessive licking
  • Limping
  • Changes in how they move
  • Increased nervousness without cause

What can a veterinary physiotherapist do to help these issues?

  • Dogs move in the easiest way for them, this doesn't mean this is benefits them. Movement that you can add into walks or around daily life.
  • Strengthening core and joints to relieve arthritis and other joint issues
  • Rehab from operation or spinal problem issues
  • Fascia stores trauma and pain can lead to mental struggles too. Treating fascia with massage, release and movement changes can release the tension that leads to the brain being stuck in fight or flight due to low grade pain
  • Strengthening and release of compensation can prevent injury or secondary injury post op
